An Integrated Approach For Teaching Mathematical Problem Solving
Fong Ho Kheong
Abstract: Mathematics teachers require different styles of teaching mathematical
problem solving to cater to different ability pupils in schools. The paper
discusses an integrated approach of teaching problem solving which involes
application of some theories: working-backwards heuristic, task analysis,
productive thinking and metacognition. A speed problem was used to illustrate
how these theories were used to tackle the problem. This integrated approach
serves as an alternative approach for solving mathematical problem.
