WRITING FOR ACADEMIC PUBLICATION
The first part of the session will be an information session that orients participants to the general field of academic publication including the political contexts surrounding academic work. Advice around the demands and expectations of publishers, editors and reviewers will be provided to allow participants to appreciate the 'hidden curriculum' of publication and how better to prepare papers for submission to journals.
The second part of the session will be a practical workshop, providing the opportunity for participants to consider the writing-for-publication advice in relation to their own work. To gain maximum benefit from this workshop participants should bring a piece of writing (such as a conference paper or draft journal article), or an idea for an article they are thinking of writing. If possible, participants should bring along a laptop. Depending on the needs of groups of participants, a planning and/or critiquing process will be scaffolded by the workshop leaders.
