LEE PENG YEE SYMPOSIUM
The Third Lee Peng Yee Symposium (LPYS) is hosted by the Mathematics and Mathematics
Education Academic Group (MME) of the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang
Technological University (NTU), Singapore.
From the Chairperson of 3rd LPYS – Ho Weng Kin
It is my pleasure to welcome all delegates to the 3rd LPYS. The LPYS is held in
honor of Dr. Lee Peng Yee’s contribution to the mathematics and mathematics education
community in Singapore. This year, being his last year in NIE, is of special significance,
and we take this symposium as an opportunity to show our appreciation for his enormous
contribution and bid him farewell. The commitment to nurture and propagate research
activities in both mathematics and mathematics education is Dr. Lee’s life mission.
Aligned with this mission, the 3rd LPYS is thus organized over two days for students,
teachers and researchers to showcase their works in either mathematics or mathematics
education. It is also a great opportunity for sharing of salient experiences in
the teaching and learning of mathematics.
The theme “Celebrating Mathematics” is a call for vibrancy, innovation and jubilance
in mathematics-related activities. For those who know Dr. Lee, this theme is totally
befitting of his jovial character and positive outlook in life. It is Dr. Lee’s
wish to see everyone “doing, enjoying, succeeding and celebrating” mathematics.
