Academic Appointments

The following positions are available in the Mathematics and Mathematics Education Academic Group.

These are tenure-track appointments for either Assistant Professorship or Associate Professorship on an initial 3-year contract, subject to renewal.

Our teaching focuses on mathematics and mathematics pedagogy for pre-service, in-service, and graduate teachers, including practicum supervision. Our strong research in mathematics and mathematics education supports this teaching commitment. We thrive on team work, and our faculty members are expected to work with colleagues from other disciplines, Singapore schools, the Singapore Ministry of Education, and international institutes.

Statistician/Applied Mathematician (One position)

The successful candidate should satisfy the following criteria:

  • PhD in Statistics or Applied Mathematics with a strong statistics component.
  • Strong record of research and publications in Statistics or Applied Mathematics with a strong statistics component.
  • Fluency in the use of mathematics-related software.
  • Evidence of very good feedback on tertiary teaching of Statistics or Applied Mathematics, including supervision of graduate students.
  • Qualification in education and/or teaching at school level is an advantage.
  • Leadership in research management (e.g., research grants received) and curriculum development in Mathematics for the Associate Professorship position.

The successful candidate is expected to teach Statistics courses at preservice, inservice and graduate level. Responsibilities also include supervising practicum of trainee teachers at secondary school level, supervising graduate dissertations in Statistics, and leading research projects.

Mathematics Education (Two positions)

The successful candidate should satisfy the following criteria:

  • PhD in any area of Mathematics Education, e.g., problem solving, error analysis, ICT use.
  • Professional qualification in education, e.g., a teaching certificate or teaching diploma.
  • Full-time teaching experience of Mathematics at school level and/or experience of working with mathematics teachers in their professional development is preferred.
  • Strong record of research and publications in Mathematics Education.
  • Evidence of very good feedback on tertiary teaching of Mathematics Methodology (Curriculum Studies) and/or Mathematics Education Research courses, including supervision of graduate students.
  • Leadership in research management (e.g., research grants received) and curriculum development in Mathematics Education for the Associate Professorship position.

The successful candidate is expected to teach mathematics methodology courses at preservice and inservice levels. Both professors and lecturers will also supervise practicum of trainee teachers at secondary school level. Professors are also expected to supervise graduate dissertations in mathematics education, to lead research projects, and to teach mathematics education research courses at graduate level.

Part-time positions

The AG also has part-time positions for well-qualified lecturers to teach mathematics methodology courses and mathematics content courses at about first year university level. The minimum academic qualification is a Masters degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education. A professional teaching qualification and at least five years of relevant full-time school teaching will be required. Non-Academic Appointments

Full/Part Time Computer Programmer/Software Developer

The initial contract is from April to September 2009. There is a high possibility that this position can be extended to 2 years.

Essential:

• Diploma (Or Degree) in Computer Programming, Software Development, Computer Studies or equivalent
• Good knowledge of database and server management
• Experience in windows/web development and programming

Preferred:

• Working experience in software design and development for online web services or educational software
• Studied Additional Mathematics

Responsibilities

The incumbent will work as part of a project team to:
• Develop a web based platform for mathematics teaching and learning
• Manage the database and maintain the sever
• Perform any other work as assigned.
